Microelectronics Engineering is the area of technology that is related with the design and fabrication of electronic devices/systems or subsystems using extremely small components - integrated circuits (IC's). These are extremely small electronic circuits performing intended functions built on semiconducting substrate. Microelectronics is a subfield of electronics.
Candidates who want to pursue undergraduate course in Microelectronic Engineering, should qualify 10+2 in science stream from a recognized board examination. Most colleges offer admission on the basis of marks obtained in Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) and All India Engineering/Pharmacy/Architecture Entrance Examination (AIEEE). To pursue postgraduate course in genetic engineering, candidates should be B.E / B.Tech in genetic engineering from recognized University. Candidates should have valid GATE score.
Microelectronics engineers create new designs and develop prototypes of electronic circuit chips, circuit boards and semiconductors. They use the knowledge of mechanical systems, new materials and electronics to develop prototypes of new designs. They must have specialized knowledge in technical writing skills and material science in order to prepare semiconductor reports and interpretation skills to read, prepare and compile progress reports.
