K S Hegde Medical College, Mangalore
Established in the year of 1999 by the Nitte Education Trust, K S Hegde Medical Academy is named after the visionary and founder, late Justice K S Hegde, former Justice of the Supreme Court of India and former Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
The Institute started functioning with it’s undergraduate courses from the year 1999-2000 and carried on further with postgraduate courses like MD, MS and DNB from the year of 2006.
The institute offers the best of opportunities to it’s students for both theoretical as well as practical training with the help of state-of-the-art facilities, valuable clinical material and helpful guidance by experienced teachers and researchers.
The Institute is attached to the K S Hegde Hospital and therefore provides adequate infrastructural support to it’s patients and student training.
The academy is now a part of the Nitte University and is recognised by the Medical Council of India, Government of India. The academy has also signed an agreement of cooperation with the University of Texas Health Sciences Center, Houston, USA for cooperation in research on diseases like malaria and tuberculosis.
The college provides bachelor courses on medicine and surgery consisting of a four and a half year course, divided into three phases.
The various clinical departments in this institute are Anaesthesiology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Endocrinology, E.N.T, General Medicine, General Surgery, Medical Oncology etc.
